“Talks with six hypermarkets to source 30% of their products from local small- and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) has been lukewarm”, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
However, he said the ministry was confident of convincing the hypermarkets to directly link up with SMEs once the latter learn to adopt effective marketing and branding skills.
“Our SMEs must undertake measures such as better packaging and marketing of their products and also improve on the branding of their products,” he said after launching the Perlis-level Consumer Day celebrations here Saturday (9 August).
Also present were Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, state ex-co member Datuk Ishak Arshad and state domestic trade and consumer affairs enforcement division director Mohd Nor Musa and his deputy Razali Lebai Salleh.
