HSBC rolls out e-banking for SMEs


Hong Kong-British banking giant HSBC plc will roll out a new global e-banking platform for small-, medium-sized and middle-market enterprises in the Philippines before the year-end. HSBCnet, the new banking system, has been launched in other markets and was well received, the bank's global co-head of commercial banking, said Margaret Leung. The number of business customers who deal with HSBC online increased by over 40 per cent last year to 780,000, with revenues earned directly from Internet transactions and e-sales now exceeding US$50 million. For instance, HSBC Bank Brasil SA transferred 8,000 customers to Connect Bank, its electronic banking system, which now has in excess of 30,000 registered users. Leung said that, based on the bank's research, there are entrepreneurs who do not want to spend time completing banking transactions, and thus find it more convenient loggin
