Help for SMEs mooted by trade body

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) plans to set up four industrial clusters for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with turnover of less than Rs15 crore.

The CII has identified a plastic component cluster for Pondicherry, mixed engineering clusters at Hyderabad and Bangalore, and a rubber-processing cluster in Kerala.

The trade body says it will assist SMEs to join the cluster programme with financial assistance from the Small Industries Development Bank of India (Sidbi). The bank will reimburse Rs25,000 to the SMEs if the project is successfully implemented. The CII plans to add 25 clusters across India for technology upgradation and modernisation of the SME sector.
