Government takes steps to strengthen financial support for SMEs

The government has taken a series of measures, including enacting related laws and regulations, giving stronger financial support and accelerating the construction of a service system, to promote the development of the small- and medium-size enterprises (SMEs).

The government has set about improving the "financing environment", which remains a key hindrance to SMEs' development, by establishing over 1,200 credit guarantee institutions, which raised over 31 billion yuan (US$3.73 billion) by the end of last year.

Officials with the State Development and Reform Commission said that the Chinese government would continue to push the exchanges and cooperation between SMEs in the Asia-Pacific region.

More than 10 million SMEs have registered in China, acting as a crucial part of the national economy, according to the ongoing Third APEC Medium and Small Enterprises Technology Conference in Qingdao, Shandong Province.
