Government to support small enterprises

The Greek government has earmarked Ђ145.6 million (US$186.2m) to support Greece's small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as a second phase of a programme to help SMEs, deputy Economy and Finance Minister Christos Pahtas announced yesterday.

The first phase of the programme, offering financial support to manufacturing and tourist enterprises, was launched last year.

Pahtas noted that the second phase has been improved, as the government has borne in mind notes made by interested parties in the first phase.

The minister said that the subsidised budget for newly set-up enterprises would increase to Ђ200,000 (US$255,800) from Ђ150,000 (US$191,850), while eligible companies would have to present an average annual turnover between Ђ15,000 and Ђ4.0 million (US$19,185 - US$5.1m) in the last three years and to employ up to 50 workers.
