Government Support for New Businesses is Poor to Dismal Say Chartered Accountants

The government has stated that by 2005 the UK will be the best country in the world in which to start a business. Yet three-quarters of Chartered Accountants surveyed by the Institute of Chartered Accountants for a report launched last Thursday agree that the government is not doing enough to encourage an enterprise culture and over half (55%) consider that current support from Government for start-ups is poor or dismal. The Developing the Enterprise Economy report reveals that while the Institute’s members are generally positive about the climate for new businesses in terms of macro-economic stability, they take a dim view of the current regulatory environment, with only 4% rating this as good. Seventy- nine per cent regard it as either poor or dismal.
