Government released Ј6m for disadvantaged communities to start up in business


The government has today released Ј6m worth of funding to encourage and assist more people from disadvantaged communities to start their own businesses.

The money has been awarded from the Phoenix Fund, designed to develop and support enterprise in areas where resources and funding is often limited, to 12 separate projects.

The largest allocation of Ј976,000 has gone to ‘Social Firms UK’ to deliver business support for organisations developing social enterprises and increasing business opportunities for people with disabilities.

The Civic Trust Regeneration Unit and New Economics Foundation has jointly received Ј852,448 to promote enterprise nationwide by harnessing skills and potential available to local communities, while the Women’s Employment, Enterprise and Training Unit (WEETA) has been granted Ј750,000 to develop training, access to finance, networking and childcare provision for low-income women in East Anglia.
