Fortis Bank wins withdrawal of rogue website set up to defraud internet surfers.

A few days ago Fortis Bank detected a fraudulent site called ‘Fortisexpressbank.com’ on which improper use was made of its logo and its name.

Fortis Bank immediately filed a complaint with the Belgian Federal Computer Crime Unit for attempted fraud, forgery and the use of forgeries. Thanks to this intervention, the site was immediately deactivated.

The site, which was in English only, attempted to obtain personal data from surfers. The bank would like to stress that this site has absolutely no link with its official sites.

Fortis Bank is part of Fortis, an international financial services provider active in the fields of banking, insurance and investment. With a market capitalisation of Ђ15 billion (at 27 May 2003), Fortis ranks in the top 20 of European financial institutions.
