Fortis Bank and EBRD in SME initiative

Fortis Bank, in co-operation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), will launch a programme aimed at helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Many companies today go bankrupt not because they incur losses, but because of cash flow problems. This means companies with a lack of cash in hand can go bankrupt even if they are profitable, say analysts.

Banks are now targeting SMEs with interesting offers. The SME sector includes some of the best customers, and its role is expected to increase further.

For this reason, Fortis Bank Poland is launching a project called SME Finance Facility - an initiative of EBRD and the European Commission. It is expected that the consolidated project budget for all European countries will be EUR1bn.

Raiffeisen is also supporting the SME sector, with the launch of a ‘European Company’ competition.
