Former FleetBoston leasing executive leaves Bank of America

Another top former FleetBoston Financial executive has left Bank of America Corp. to be replaced by a long-time BofA staffer, raising new alarms about the diminishing clout of former Fleet managers at the Charlotte, N.C.-based bank.

Doug Bowers, previously managing director of Bank of America's leasing and capital group, will replace Ron Chamides, a long-time Fleet executive, as head of the bank's leasing business.

Bowers will be permanently based in Charlotte - even though the bank says it eventually plans to move its asset-based lending and leasing units to Boston, a spokeswoman said yesterday.

Chamides, who bank officials say retired for personal reasons, was based in Boston until he left the company a few weeks ago, only weeks after Bank of America's official Fleet takeover on April.
