FDI in Slovakia rises 12.5 per cent in first six months.


Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Slovakia rose in the first half of 2003 by 15.2 per cent year-on-year to Sk20.838 billion (Ђ505 million), the central bank NBS reported on Friday (26 September).

Bratislava region received the largest share of Sk14.390 billion, followed by Kosice region (Sk5.135 billion), Trnava region (Sk445 million), Zilina region (Sk330 million), and Nitra region (Sk286 million). Production and distribution of gas and electricity accounted for Sk9.360 billion of the investment, manufacturing Sk8.188 billion, and wholesale and retail Sk1.613 billion.

The highest volume of FDI came from Germany (Sk9.297 billion), ahead of Hungary (Sk8.029 billion), and the Netherlands (Sk1.456 billion). Over Sk500 million was invested by Italian, Czech, and British investors.
