FDI growth slows in 2003


Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Lithuania rose 3% in 2003 to 13.6 billion litai (LTL), according to the Lithuanian Statistics Department. FDI was LTL 13.18 billion in 2002. Foreign investment per capita rose 3.1 per cent to LTL 3,927.

The rate of FDI slowed considerably in 2003 compared to volumes of 50% in 1997; 54.8% in 1998; 27.7% in 1999; 12% in 2000; 15% in 2001 and 23.4% in 2002.

A large share of investment in 2003 came from Germany and Finland, while in 2002 it mostly came from Russia, Germany and Estonia.

The exchange rate of the litai is tied to the euro at 3.4528 litai : Ђ1.
