Experts propose comprehensive service system for Chinese SMEs

Chinese and Italian experts proposed setting up a comprehensive service system for China's small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Statistics from the Chinese National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) show that by March this year, 99.4 percent of Chinese firms were SMEs and they employ 75 percent of all workers in urban areas and townships.

“A sound and effective service system has been conducive to the rapid growth of Italian SMEs”, said Luo Hongbo, deputy director and a senior research fellow with the Institute of European Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). He was speaking about the internationalisation of Italy's Lombardia region at a conference held in Beijing on Friday, 22 November.

The system included various professional associations and venture incubators, networking agencies, and innovation and assistance centres, said Luo.
