Experian arrives in Russia

With credit comes a credit history and Russia's booming consumer lending sector saw the first high-profile arrival of a Western credit agency on Tuesday.

Experian, which is based in Costa Mesa, Calif., announced the launch of a joint venture with Russia's Interfax information agency at a news conference in Moscow.

"The consumer economy is growing strongly in Russia, with demand for credit from consumers and businesses rising rapidly in parallel," Roger Aubrook, director of Experian International, said in a statement carried by Interfax. "At the same time, the legal infrastructure in Russia is developing quickly, making the sharing of credit data possible for the first time."
