Ex-TMB chief sets up SME financial consultancy

A veteran of nearly 30 years in financial markets and former chief of three commercial banks, Somchai Sakulsurarat is too happy with his current pursuits to return to the banking industry.

Somchai, who once led Bank of Ayudhya, and the now-defunct Bangkok Metropolitan Bank, recently resigned as chief of Thai Military Bank (TMB) when it began restructuring.

He said his departure from TMB was his final "goodbye" to the banking industry. But that does not mean he has done nothing since.

Soon after departing TMB, Somchai set up a financial-consulting company called SCG, and was also appointed chairman of a business newspaper.

The consulting firm provides financial services to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Somchai believes many SMEs have a better chance of growing if they receive specific help on financial management strategies.
