Economy Suffers as Business Start-Ups Fall to All-Time Low

  • 8% more businesses have closed down compared to 2000
  • Massive decline in Business & Computer Services, down by more than a third
  • Wales hardest hit with start-ups falling by 28%
  • In a week when there is much talk about wavering confidence in the UK economy, the latest survey from Barclays shows that would-be entrepreneurs are also feeling the pinch. The number of people starting their own business has dropped by 27%, the largest drop for nearly 10 years, and 8% more businesses have closed compared to the same quarter last year.
