EBRD to lend under mortgage projects in Ukraine SMEs in 2004

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is going to begin lending under mortgage projects in the Ukraine next year, EBRD country director for Ukraine Kamen Zahariev said. Around $30m may be set aside as the first stage for implementation of such a programme.

The EBRD is going to boost an amount of direct loans provided to private enterprises in Ukraine. In his words, the bank plans to give up the present scheme of work under the credit line for small- and medium- sized enterprises (SME-II) when authorized banks extend loans to companies, using EBRD funds, and to directly open credit lines to the SME-II experienced commercial banks.
