Eastern partners expect Poland's EU accession to boost trade and economic co-operation


One of the most important topics discussed at the Krynica Economic Forum was how EU enlargement is going to affect the Central and Eastern European countries not joining the EU next year, and what Poland's accession is going to mean for its eastern neighbours, Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine.  A specialist article presents summaries of interviews, featured in a recent issue of Parkiet, with the three countries' commercial representatives in Poland.  Nikolai Zachmatov, Russian Federation's commercial representative  Two important developments led to a fall in bilateral trade in the last 10 years - the disintegration of the RWPG (Council for Mutual Economic Aid), and the 1998 Russian financial crisis. Still, things have been improving and we expect turnover to exceed $6bn this year.
