Credit insurer aims for sales of US$4.8m in 2005

Colombian credit insurer Segurexpo expects to close 2005 with sales of pesos 11.4bn (US$4.8m) commercial manager Josй David Lamk said.

The company's performance has been positive, bringing profits of pesos 314m in 2004 from losses of 126m pesos in 2003, the banking regulator reported.

Segurexpo ventured back recently to Venezuela after having closed down operations there almost two years ago. The decision had been made to pull out due to a critical economic situation that Colombian businessmen feared would result in payments for goods and services not being fulfilled, Lamk said.

"Venezuela is a strategic partner for Colombia, therefore all possibilities to restart discussions have been sought out and studied," Lamk said.

Segurexpo is a private insurer created in October 1993 as an initiative of Colombia's public and private sector.
