Credit insurance in Poland - world's largest players enter

The European giants of merchant credit insurance, Coface and Gerling NCM, are increasingly interested in the Polish market.

Coface plans to open a branch of its Austrian affiliate, using the resources and customers of Coface Intercredit, which has operated in Poland since 1992. Merchant credit insurance is a novelty in Poland.

Euler Hermes, whose insurance was sold as part of the Allianz Polska's offer, managed to collect ZL50m of premium over the course of three years. The company controls over 60 per cent of the Polish market. This February, it received a licence to operate independently in Poland.

The largest insurance companies, such as PZU, Warta and Ergo Hestia, offer credit insurance. The specialised companies co-operate with business information offices, such as Coface Intercredit, special collection companies and firms offering specialist risk management services.
