Company insolvencies down in Q4 2003


Statistics showing insolvencies in the fourth quarter 2003 are published today by the Department of Trade and Industry. (DTI)

COMPANY INSOLVENCIES

There were 3,316 company insolvencies in England and Wales in the fourth quarter of 2003 on a seasonally adjusted basis. This was a decrease of 1.9% on the previous quarter and a decrease of 22.5% on the same period a year ago.

Of active companies, 0.9% became insolvent in the twelve months ended Q4 2003, a decrease on the previous quarter and on the corresponding quarter in 2002.

INDIVIDUAL INSOLVENCIES

There were 10,271 individual insolvencies in England and Wales in the fourth quarter of 2003 on a seasonally adjusted basis. This was an increase of 12.0% on the previous quarter and an increase of 28.9% on the same period a year ago.
