Canada supports small and medium enterprise development in Bangladesh

Susan Whelan, Minister for International Cooperation, today announced that Canada, through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), will contribute Can$9.4 million over the next five years to support small and medium enterprise development in Bangladesh.

"One of the key elements to reduce poverty is the ability to increase the capacity of the poor to participate in the economy through access to income- generating activities," Minister Whelan said. "Achieving a better quality of life in Bangladesh is constrained by many factors. A healthy small and medium enterprise sector will generate new jobs for many low-income groups."
