Ernst and Young figures show that UK is Europe's favourite place to
invest.
Trade and Industry Secretary Stephen Byers today hailed new inward
investment figures released by accountants Ernst and Young as a
"ringing endorsement" for the UK.
The figures show that the UK is the favourite place for inward
investment among European countries. The company's Investment
Monitor Report covering the year 2000 shows that:
UK inward investment projects are up 13% on 1999;
the UK enjoys over twice the rate of European investment growth;
and
the UK is Europe's favourite investment location and its market
share is up.
The report also shows that:
There were 2243 investments across Europe, 5% up on 1999;
there were 575 UK investments, up 13% (from 508) on 1999;
UK investment market share in Europe up by 2% to 26%; and
the next largest is France with 15%
