BNR cut the intervention rate to 12.5%

The administration board of BNR (National Bank of Romania) has decided to reduce, by two percentage points, the intervention interest rate, which would go down to 12.5 per cent.

This is the 4th cut this year and it is also the most significant cut made by BNR since the downward trend started last summer within the monetary policy interest rate process.

The previous change took place last month, when the interest rate was calculated at 14.5 per cent.

In mid February, it decreased from 16.5 per cent to 15.75 per cent. Since mid last year, the interest has gradually gone down from a level of 21.25 per cent.
