In the financial year (FY) 2025, BlackSoil, an alternative credit platform, witnessed a remarkable surge in its supply chain finance (SCF) operations, with the business nearly doubling its book size to INR 350 crore (US 41m). This expansion reflects the company’s strategic commitment to addressing the financing needs of high-growth sectors.

Throughout the year, BlackSoil provided funding support to 98 companies, deploying more than INR 2,470 crore (US$289m) in cumulative capital. This capital deployment was largely driven by businesses in the agriculture and fintech sectors, areas that have shown robust growth and demand for innovative financing solutions.

The company’s assets under management (AUM) also experienced significant growth, rising 30 per cent year-on-year to reach INR 1,750 crore (US$205m). This growth was underpinned by a strong credit appetite in sectors that are central to India’s consumption-driven economy and infrastructure development.

BlackSoil’s sectoral investment focus in FY25 highlighted agriculture, fintech and financial institutions, as well as fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and grocery. Specifically, 24 per cent of its capital deployment went into agriculture, 23 per cent into fintech and financial institutions, and 16 per cent into FMCG and grocery businesses.

The company attributed its growth in the SCF domain and overall portfolio strength to a disciplined investment strategy and a deep understanding of the sectors it serves. Ankur Bansal, Managing Director at BlackSoil, noted that these results are a testament to the team’s rigorous approach and sectoral expertise.

Over the course of the year, BlackSoil made strategic investments in prominent companies such as Moneyview, Bluestone, Curefoods, and AquaExchange. At the same time, it successfully exited 37 investments, which included high-profile names like TVF, Upstox, Yatra, and Airworks—demonstrating the firm’s ability to deliver returns and cycle capital effectively.
