Bibby Research Shows that SMEs Spurn Banks for Advice

Only seven per cent of people turn to their bank manager as their first choice for business advice, according to a new survey from Bibby Financial Services, the financial services group which operates through a national network of 13 autonomous companies across the UK

The findings suggest that bank managers, once stalwarts of the local community, are no longer considered the best providers of business advice. Instead 22 per cent of respondents felt that business publications offered the best guidance; while one in five of those surveyed turned first to their husband wife or partner.

When asked what message they had for their bank manager, the majority of respondents (28 per cent) asked “do you know who I am?” A further 18 per cent of those surveyed requested the return of branch managers.

The survey goes on to show that one in ten small business owners or managers say that their bank manager is the person they trust least.
