Bibby Research Shows 2001 was a Turbulent Year for Small Businesses

Within the next 12 months 64% of Britain's small business owners and managers are vowing to devote more time to family life, according to a new survey of small business resolutions for 2002 published 25 January, by Bibby Financial Services.

The findings are in contrast to the optimism of the small business sector this time last year, when the top New Year's resolution for the UK's small business owners and managers was to identify new markets for their products and services.

The focus on home life is underlined with just over half (51%) pledging to work shorter hours in 2002, demonstrating a resolve to get the work/life balance right.

These results come at the end of a turbulent year for British small firms following the devastating consequences of the foot and mouth crisis, the tragic events of the 11 September terrorist attacks and the resulting slow down of the world wide economy.
