Benchmark interest rate decision


Australia's central bank left its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 5.25 percent.

The Reserve Bank of Australia twice lifted its key rate by 25 basis points in November and again in December but has left it unchanged since then.

Last year's rate rises were designed to slow the booming housing market by making it more expensive to borrow money amid fears the market could crash.
