Bank Negara sets up special unit to help SMEs

Bank Negara Malaysia has set up a special unit to help small- and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) obtain financing. The Small and Medium Enterprises Special Unit begins operations today (20 May).

Bank Negara said that while the banking system is the main provider of funds to the SMEs, other sources of financing include the development financial institutions and the various special funds established by the Government.

"This special unit is part of the on-going efforts to ensure continued access to financing for viable SMEs across all sectors," the bank said. SMEs that require assistance can contact the special unit between 9am and 5pm.
