The Mexican Foreign Trade Bank (Bancomext) estimates that Mexican exports could grow by 5% during 2003, a year in which the bank expects to channel US$8.2 billion in credit to support the foreign trade sector.
Through 2002, when exports grew by almost 2.0%, Bancomext channeled US$6.99 billion in financing, which was 27% more than in 2001, reported Sergio Fadl Kuri, Bancomext general director. Fadl said the development bank has mainly increased its presence in the credit market among small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and is filling the gap left by the commercial bank.
