Bancoldex lending up 79% Q1 2005

Colombia's state-owned export development bank Banco de Comercio Exterior de Colombia (Bancoldex) issued loans worth 565bn pesos (US$243m) in the first four months. The figure corresponds to a 79% year-on-year increase, the bank said in a statement. Some 220bn pesos of Bancoldex's loans were channelled to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), or 38% of total lending. Micro-sized enterprises received 11% of the lending or 59.5bn pesos. Bancoldex conducted 10,403 lending operations through April this year. The bank recently announced it would increase the share of SME loans as a percentage of total loans to at least 50% this year compared to 40% in 2004. Source: BNamericas.com
