Banco do Brasil boosts export lending 17%; SMEs benefit

Brazilian federal bank Banco do Brasil (BB) boosted export lending under its Proex programme by 17% in January to US$9.6m, compared to January 2002, the bank said in a statement.

BB's Proex credit lines are mainly directed to small- and medium-sized exporters (SMEs) in Brazil.

In January, 80% of the 74 enterprises that received Proex financing were SMEs, of those, 19 were first-time Proex clients.

BB is Brazil's largest bank in terms of assets and is one of the leading export financiers among Brazilian banks.
