An Asian information network known as Asiagate, a regional credit information network, will be launched to provide a one-stop centre for credit reporting services for the Asia Pacific region.
Asiagate, which has been jointly set up by the leading credit reporting agencies in the Asian countries, will be officially launched by Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, on 12 May.
It was organised by one of the country's leading credit information provider, Business and Search Information Services Sdn Bhd (BASIS). BASIS managing director, Steven How, said that trends towards globalisation and free global and regional trade espoused by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA), has created the need for local credit reporting agencies in Asian countries to provide credit reports on a regional or international basis to cater for increasing cross-border trade and investment.
