ALIDE to increase financing to Latin American SMEs

The Latin American Association of Development Finance Institutions (ALIDE) is planning to join forces with other organisations in order to increase financing for small-and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Latin America.

In a meeting with Enrique Iglesias, president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Mario Laborнn Gуmez, the new president of the ALIDE, announced new measures and proposals for restructuring the organization's functions.

Laborнn, who is also the director of the development bank State credit organization Nacional Financiera (Nafin), proposed creating an index to evaluate the results of development organizations in the region as a way to rank Latin American development banks.

This indicator, to be called the ALIDE Index, would determine the fulfilment of objectives by organisations belonging to the association. Items to be considered include creation of jobs, number of new companies, employees' productivity, etc.
