ADF increases support to African SMEs

The African Development Fund (ADF) has strengthened its support of small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) development in Africa through a new grant to the African Management Services Company (AMSCO).

This grant, amounting to 1.6 million Units of Account (UA) (US$2.35 million), was approved by the Board of Directors of the ADF.

It will help to strengthen the African Training and Management Services (ATMS) Project and improve the quality of its service delivery. The ATMS Project is a unique programme for assisting the private sector and particularly SMEs. It is intended to assist African businesses to become more competitive by seconding experienced managers and supporting training to upgrade management skills, considered to be one of the main causes of the weak performance of enterprises and in particular, the SMEs ,on the continent.
