1.8bn baht sought for SMEs development

The Industrial Promotion Department plans to seek the National Economic and Social Development Board's approval for a budget of 1.8-billion baht to forge ahead with its Invigorating Thai Business (ITB) programme for this year and next.

Sumonman Kalayasiri, the department's general-director, said the funds would sustain the ITB programme which was set up last year to help small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to revive and expand their businesses.

The department will consult with the Thailand Productivity Institute, Thailand Textile Institute, Thai-German Institute, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Bank and the Federation of Thai Industries before submitting the proposal to the board for approval next month.

Mrs Sumonman said the overwhelming success of the same project last year, which included an initial 2,600 SMEs plus an additional 375 participants, had a significant effect on local operations.
