The National Bank of Canada (which is a private bank, rather than the Canada’s central bank) has established a factoring division and is offering factoring from their Montreal head office. The division specialises in export factoring, although it also offers a domestic factoring product to clients.
The new industry players are thought to be targeting medium and large-sized businesses although sources say that they will not limit themselves exclusively to clients of this size.

Canbank Factors, India’s largest factor by market share, have released their annual accounts for the year ended 31 March 2001. Turnover has increased by 21% from Rs. 732 Crores in the previous year to Rs. 887 Crores in the year ended 31 March 2001. The company introduced an export factoring service in December 2000 and there is optimism that their entry into the realm of international factoring will present “tremendous development opportunities in the future”.

Minister for Small Business Nigel Griffiths has launched a new national TV and print advertising campaign aimed at encouraging owner-managers of the UK's 3.7 million small businesses to contact their local Business Link for advice.
Research shows that the most important lesson successful small business owners can give to those thinking of starting up is to research the market thoroughly and seek professional advice, although, 82% of UK small businesses think they don't need it!

The Royal Bank of Scotland has completed the Ј68 million purchase of Euro Sales Finance. The Bank had already declared the cash offer for the entire issued and to be issued ordinary share capital of Euro Sales Finance unconditional as to acceptances and now the OFT have confirmed that the purchase does not raise any competition issues, the deal has been completed.
